Grow and Gather: Spring Foraging

Explore the Welsh Hills Trail and learn how to forage with our Kitchen Gardener, Abbie Lehman.

This class will begin with a discussion of foraging basics at the base of the trail. We will then embark on a two-mile loop through the Welsh Hills to put our new knowledge to the test, identifying common Spring wild edibles along the way.

The Welsh Hills Trail is part of an ongoing effort by the Driftless Area Land Conservancy to establish a nearly 50-mile-long Driftless Trail. Your feet will be making history!

We will discuss Wright’s connection to the Driftless, and how it inspired a culture at Taliesin of working with and learning within the natural environment.

By the end of this course, you will learn why you should forage, where you can forage, how to forage safely and responsibly, as well as key identification techniques and common plant families.
